Sonoran Desert Overview
Sonoran Desert Hiking Trip Details
The High Arizona Sonoran Desert encompasses southern and far western Arizona including areas near Phoenix and Tucson.

The Arizona Sonoran is a wild area characterized by fault-bounded mountains and basins.  It is the product of extensional tectonics thought to be the result of the North American plate "sliding" out over the Pacific Plate over roughly the last 15 million years.

The geology here is extremely complicated and very unique, and includes many faults, geologic structures, and metamorphic core complexes that are some of the most complicated and intensively-researched geologic features in the western United States.

Adventures in the Arizona Sonoran include trips into the Superstition Mountains, Chiricaua National Monument, Saguaro National Park, Sonoran National Monument, and several incredibly scenic and special places such as Aravaipa Canyon among others.  The Sonoran Desert is a place of outrageous desert sunsets, rugged and beautiful topography, and a true southwestern experiences.
Trips to the Arizona Sonoran Desert are offered from November-May, as soaring summer temperatures are extremely inhospitable and dangerous.  The climate of the central Sonoran is less extreme, but can still reach high 90's to 100's in the dog days of summer.  Winter is an excellent time to explore both of these areas.  Good physical condition is required, and an appropriate packing list is a must (see our blog for tips about training and packing).

Trip price includes: certified guide, gear (backpack, tent, sleeping bag, sleeping pad), meals (breakfast, lunch, dinner, snacks), water, permits and camp fees, transportation to and from trails/campsites

Trip price does not include: extra gear rental (water bladder, first aid kits, luxury items, etc.), airfare, transportation to and from host city, pre or post-trip hotel accomodations, personal health/liability insurace
