Trip Itinerary

Day 1:

The Utah High Plateau Greatest Hits tour begins in St. George, Utah and a hiking excursion into Snow Canyon State Park, a spectacular, and often forgotten, part of this wonderful area.  Snow Canyon offers many of the same things as some of the more well-known destinations, with sunset orange and red sandstone, fascinating geologic features, and soaring canyon walls.  After we get our fill on day 1, we will head to our comfortable and private camp site in the Dixie National Forest, conveniently located central to Zion National Park, Bryce Canyon National Park, and Cedar Breaks National Monument.
Drive Time: 3.5 hours
Distance & Elevation: 4 miles, negligible elevation
Light Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

Day 2:

Today’s adventure starts with a trip into Zion National Park and a driving tour of some of the park's most excellent and famous scenery along with an epic hike up Angel's Landing, one of the National Park system's premier trails.  Along the way we will observe the towering sandstone cliffs and epic scenery that has earned Zion the nickname "Yosemite Dressed in Red".  From the top of Angel's Landing, we will have a tremendous view into the Zion Valley, with excellent opportunities for photographs and a sunset dinner prepared by your geologist/guide.  We will then return to our campsite and prepare for our next day's adventure.
Distance & Elevation: 5 miles, 1500 foot ascent
Breakfast, Lunch, Sunset Dinner

Day 3:

Our third day of the Utah High Plateau Greatest Hits BaseCamp tour is another foray into canyon country, with a trip out to Cedar Breaks National Monument.  Cedar Breaks is often thought of as the perfect offspring of Bryce Canyon and Zion, with soaring canyons and natural amphitheatres that make both parks so famous.  Here at Cedar Breaks we will have the opportunity to hike and explore the excellent scenery and fine landscapes that geologic time has sculpted for us, with another photo workshop that will explore many of the parks famous features such as arches, hoodoos, and other tremendous erosional features.
Distance & Elevation: 5 miles, 350 foot descent
Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

Day 4:

Our fourth day offers something a bit different; canyoneering in Bryce Canyon National Park.  We will head into one of Utah's outstanding slot canyons for a truly Utah canyon country experience.  Photography in slot canyons offers a special challenge, as light can be fleeting, and an eye for the unique feature is required, but our geologist/guide and photographer will help you snap some excellent pictures!  The location and technical difficulty will be decided prior to your trip, so please be honest in your pre-trip questionnaire.  The suspense is killing us too!
Distance & Elevation: Maximum 10 miles, 1000 foot descent
Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

Day 5:

Our final day will see us back into Zion National Park for a farewell tour of some of the Park's world-famous geology and scenery.  Your geologist guide will take you into the incredible Zion backcountry for an adventure you won't soon forget.  After we've had our fill, we will return to St. George.
Distance & Elevation: 7 miles, minimal descent
Breakfast, Lunch
Drive Time: 3.5 hours
